You guys know just how much I love trying fun nail colors! This time I decided to try the floating manicure which is one of the biggest Spring nail trends, it was in nearly every runway show I’ve seen this season. I thought polishes from Essie’s new Neons 2014 Collection would be really fun to work with, and I knew I could find them all at my local Walgreens.
Walgreens beauty aisle where the polishes are found |
Walgreens carries a wide assortment of nail colors, and it’s my favorite place to shop for newest releases from brands like Essie. The stand was easy to find, it was right there in the cosmetics aisle. Look at those beauties!

I ended up picking up these three stunners from Essie’s 2014 Neons Collection to play with: Sittin’ Pretty, Too Taboo, and I’m Addicted. Don’t they look great together?
Sittin’ Pretty is described as florescent berry hibiscus; Too Taboo is a vivid intense fuchsia, and I’m Addicted is vivid neon aquamarine blue. Like all Essie polishes, these cremes have fantastic buttery-smooth formula that glides on like a dream, and required two coats for full opacity.
So what’s this floating manicure I was talking about earlier? It’s basically a nail design done over bare nail, that looks like it’s floating on the surface. The designers seemed to often choose to float the tips by adding elements like a neon french tip or a bright dotticure over clear base. I decided to do both!
“Floating” dotticure |
To achieve this one I applied a clear base on my nails to create a smooth canvas, and waited for it to dry. Then I dipped a dotting tool in Sittin’ Pretty and applied a few dots on the tips of my nails. I followed up doing the same with Too Taboo to fill the empty spaces. As a finishing step, I used a very small dotting tool and put a few spots of I’m Addicted as little accents.
“Floating” nail tips with dots |
For this second floating manicure, I painted my nails with a clear base and waited for it to dry. Then I grabbed Too Taboo and applied two strikes along the sides of the nail, connecting them in the middle. To add some fun to the mani, I grabbed the dotting tool, dipped it in Sittin’ Pretty, and put a few dots to make the design look a little more finished.
Classic dotticure featuring large dots using bright Spring colors |
Third manicure is more traditional; I applied Sittin’ Pretty as a base and used the nail polish brush from Too Taboo to draw some circles of varying sizes. Can you tell I like circles? 🙂
I hope you enjoyed these manicures as much as I enjoyed creating them. You can find polishes I used and more colors from Essie 2014 Neons Collection at your local Walgreens and Walgreens.com.
