Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Concentrated Recovery PowerFoil Mask Review
Surprise! A Saturday post is not a norm on this blog, but for the longest time I wanted to share some easy-to-read mini reviews for those of you who don’t want to wait til Monday to see what’s new. And the best way to do that is to share my thoughts on products that don’t require long amounts of testing. Like sheet masks.
I have a wide variety of masks in my stash [most of which I bought myself], from all kinds of brands and at different price ranges. Considering how popular they have become in the recent years, I figured you guys would want to know which ones I think are worth the splurge, and which aren’t. I say “splurge”, because if we put things into perspective, even if you’re just using dollar masks, those dollars can easily add up to $10, $15, or the whole $30 per month if you’re masking daily. That’s a price of a decent mid-range moisturizer right there.
So today I wanted to start off by reviewing one of the coveted “it” masks – Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Concentrated Recovery PowerFoil Mask ($25 for 1 pc), a “groundbreaking, first of its kind, dual-matrix foil-backed sheet mask that resets the look of skin.” Also, have fun pronouncing that 5 times in a row.
Naturally, I see questions about this mask all over the place – on Instagram, on Reddit, in the blog comments, etc. It costs a small fortune and offers something different than regular sheet masks – a foil layer that supposedly boosts the delivery of active ingredients, making the mask even more effective. The liquid contains a dose of famous anti-aging Advanced Night Repair serum and a Hyaluronic Acid complex for additional hydration. Estee Lauder recommends using this mask at night for maximum benefits, which makes sense considering what’s in it.
The mask is packaged beautifully, and I expect no less from the brand known for their fancy presentation. Once I took the top and bottom mask pieces out of the protective sleeve, I noticed that there are two layers: a thin foil layer and a cotton sheet mask layer soaked in essence. All of the tutorials I’ve seen had people putting on these masks effortlessly. I don’t know about anyone else, but I had to separate mine into foil and cotton sheets, and apply each one separately, otherwise it didn’t want to adhere properly. Always apply the bottom half first, the whole thing will stick to your face much more securely.
Once the mask was on, I immediately felt a pleasant cooling sensation, which soon turned into a warm one. It didn’t quite burn my skin, but I felt like I was in a sauna. As advised, I removed the mask after 10 minutes, and my skin was definitely moisturized and plump. It was also red. It didn’t itch, didn’t hurt, didn’t burn anywhere. It was just a tomato. I have no idea what happened there, because I used ANR before and never had any issues with the formula, so it’s either other additives in the mask or the delivery method. Even though I didn’t experience any actual discomfort, I know that when the skin looks red it’s never a good sign.
The mask takes some practice to apply, and even then I had to hold it with my fingers to make sure it doesn’t slide off.
After removing the mask – my skin is obviously red and irritated.

- You like trying novelty beauty products.
- You like fragrance-free skincare.
You will HATE it if:
- You don’t like fussy application.
- You have sensitive skin or rosacea.
- You prefer all-natural skincare.

BOTTOM LINE:
Well, my final verdict is pretty obvious. Considering the cons and my own skin’s reaction, I do not think that Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Concentrated Recovery PowerFoil Mask is worth the money, and I will not be purchasing another one. While it does contain a plethora of beautiful anti-aging ingredients, I think you can save your money and just buy a bottle of ANR, avoiding this mask all-together. Again, this is just my opinion, and maybe it works wonders for other people, but it did not live up to my expectations.
