It's time to upgrade your makeup routine for summer with new vibrant shades from Mirabella Lighten Up and Heat Collections!

It’s been a while since I wrote about Mirabella on this blog, hasn’t it, so today I’m sharing the brand’s latest spring and summer releases to give your makeup a little sparkle and provide beautiful glow to the skin.

Earlier this year in April Mirabella created Lighten Up Collection that features warm flattering shades in unique modern formulas that will surprise and delight any makeup lover. The collection includes Visionary Long-wearing Eyeshadow, Glowing Coral Brilliant highlighter, and Color Vinyl Lipstick.

“Freshen up your look for spring with warm, glowing shades!”

New Visionary Long-wearing Eyeshadows [$29, available here] come in three new shades:

  • Vivid – coral
  • Charmed – dusty pink
  • Imagine – beige shimmer

My first impression was: Wow! Two pink eyeshadows, that’s pretty ballsy even for a modern makeup collection! I rarely wear pink on my eyes because the wrong color can make me look sick. I think that’s true for almost everyone I know, so I am always either very careful about my pinks or try to avoid them alltogether, because it’s just easier that way. However, if you think you can pull off these gorgeous shades, you won’t be left disappointed. The formula is top notch, and the texture is unlike anything else I’ve tried. It’s like a fluffy spongy mousse that’s best applied with your fingertips. All three shades are quite shimmery and will make your eyes the center of attention.

I tested Imagine for wear time, and it performed really well on my oily lids with primer. I didn’t see any creasing, and most importantly, no glitter fallout. So far this one is a winner, and I already wore it twice last week [which is a lot if you have a lot of other favorites].

Glowing Coral Brilliant [$40, available here] is Mirabella’s signature “wavy” highlighter as I lovingly call it, and it makes the perfect pair with my Swirling Pearl Brilliant from Faerie Collection that I blogged about couple years ago. It’s definitely very shimmery and can even be used as a blush on fair skin. Mirabella is very proud about this formula, calling it revolutionary, because these highlighters were created using mineral-based Prismatech technology that blurs imperfections and makes your skin look amazing. I can attest to that, because I definitely noticed the optical blurring effect – shimmery particles reflected the light in all directions making my cheek discolorations from old acne scarring almost invisible.

Now let’s talk tools. This highlighter is pressed pretty tightly so I had no luck using my gray squirrel brushes – they simply wouldn’t pick up any product. I kept trying with different brushes and found that goat and synthetic bristles did the best job, and luckily those are usually the cheapest brushes in one’s brush kit. To be more specific, I am currently using Sephora x Hakuhodo Blush Brush which picks up the optimal amount of powder without making a mess in the pan.

Finally, the last piece in the collection was Color Vinyl Lipstick [$26, available here] in Balmy Nectar, a glossy formula with extended 10-hour wear and a smaller bullet that perfectly conforms to most lip shapes, preventing smudging, feathering, and over-application. This gel-cream lipstick was a pleasure to apply, and the color looked absolutely gorgeous for summertime. I know this is a spring collection, but dang that coral is perfect for the beach! Enriched with raspberry & lychee extracts and argan oil this lippie is like your best friend to combat dryness while staying fierce and fabulous. I mentioned this many times before, but Mirabella lip gloss formula is my all-time favorite, and now that I had a chance to try this lipstick I think all of the brand’s lip products might really be all-around perfect. Long story short, if you never tried Mirabella products before, I recommend starting with the lip offerings.

For Summer 2016 Mirabella is introducing the new Heat Collection, and I received the newest Lasting Lash Waterproof Mascara [$26, available here] to try. I have three criteria for a good mascara: no clumps, no sticky lashes, and no smudges. Now, whether the effect is volumizing or lengthening depends on the wand of course, so I don’t really have any requirements here because it’s very individual, although I personally prefer volumizing ones. Lasting Lash Waterproof Mascara met all of my criteria for a good mascara and gave me a fair amount of both length and volume. It’s sort of a jack-of-all-trades of waterproof mascaras, and I actually like it a lot so far. I’ve worn it to the pool and it stayed on the lashes without flaking [some waterproof mascaras don’t melt off, they fall off in crumbles!]. So if you’re on the hunt for a good waterproof mascara that will give you a little bit of volume and a little bit of length, this is a viable choice to consider.

BOTTOM LINE:

Mirabella really managed to surprise us this year, didn’t they? I for one did not expect to see pink eyeshadows at all! In my experience, it’s one of the colors that’s worn the least because it can be hard to find the perfect pink that goes well with your skin tone and eye color.  Mirabella recommends the coral Vivid to make the blue eyes pop, and dusty pink Charmed is best to complement green eyes. Let’s just say, neither of them looked good with my hazel eyes, but I once managed to pull off Barbie bubblegum pink, so I know at least one hue that actually works for us brown-eyed girls! For me, there are two standouts this time: Glowing Coral Brilliant highlighter blush that really blurs out those tiny imperfections, and the Color Vinyl Lipstick that lasts a long time. Maybe not the advertised 10 hours, but easily 5-6 without touchups. The formula was very smooth and comfortable to wear, so now I really want to try more colors from the range.
