Today is the first day when it actually feels like spring has finally come. The sun is warm and bright, the flowers are blooming, and the trees are starting to turn green. Even though this year’s winter was one of the mildest on record, I don’t think anything can trump the beauty of warmer seasons. And with daily temperatures on the rise it’s time for me to figure out my spring fragrance wardrobe. While prominent spicy, musky, and woody notes are amazing for fall and winter, spring and summer call for fresh and airy scents.
Two years ago I purchased my very first bottle of Guerlain Aqua Allegoria – Herba Fresca – and as soon as I had that elegant glass vessel with golden honeycomb designs in my hands I knew it wouldn’t be my last. This year I added two more to my collection, all thanks to FragranceNet.com. For my spring scent lineup I chose Flora Rosa and Lys Soleia, both of which are similar to Herba Fresca in their airiness, to no one’s surprise. While all three scents are distinctively different, they share a common freshness that ties together all of the past and present “allegorias”.
The lineup was first introduced to the market in 1999 and has since become iconic among brand’s cosmetic offerings. Inspired by the beauty of nature, every spring two new limited edition Aqua Allegoria fragrances join the four legendary permanent creations. One becomes available at mass retailers and online, while another is always a duty-free exclusive, a coveted find available to travelers worldwide. You can sometimes find these duty-free limited edition releases sold at various resellers like Amazon and eBay with very high markup! For those who are interested, this year’s limited edition Aqua Allegorias are Pera Granita at beauty retailers and Rosa Pop at duty free.
Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Lys Soleia was released in 2012. It’s the perfect fragrance to welcome the arrival of warm weather that won’t look out of place during spring and summer months. Created to reproduce the notes of exotic oriental yellow lilies, Lys Soleia is a happy, sunshine-filled fragrance that reminds me of jasmine petals with a hint of mint. The initial floral burst eventually transforms into slightly rubbery creamy vanilla, kind of like sunscreen on a hot summer day.
- Top notes: Bergamot, lemon, palm leaves.
- Middle notes: Lily, ylang-ylang, tropical fruits.
- Base notes: Tuberose, vanilla, white musk.
Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Flora Rosa was introduced in 2013 as a duty free exclusive. Guerlain loves using roses in their fragrances, so to keep things interesting they try to creatively play up the Queen of flowers and give this bittersweet note an unexpected twist. Flora Rosa turned out to be more than just another rose. This bouquet is crisp, powdery, and fruity. Instead of taking the center stage, rose here plays a supporting role to red berries and iris that add depth and a veil of mystery. I don’t think this is a daytime fragrance at all, it’s definitely something I would wear for the night out or on a date. This rose is romantic and feminine without being cheesy and overly “mature”, and I’m not surprised at all that Flora Rosa turned out to be one of the most successful rose-centric Aqua Allegoria releases to date.
- Top notes: Red berries.
- Middle notes: Rose, iris.
- Base notes: Musk.

I love the unusual mix of notes in these fragrances–rose w/berries and bergamot w/vanilla. They both sound fabulous!
Right? That rose-berry mix was the most unusual, and somehow it works 🙂
I love the notes in both of these fragrances, I wouldn’t say no to either. Gorgeous pictures, too. I’m in awe.
Thank you Erika! You are too sweet 🙂

Thank you Leelo! Sometimes the natural lighting is amazing 🙂
I know you love your rose fragrances, so if you say it’s good, I know it is! I’m feeling the itch for Spring fragrances, too!
