I was planning to share my review of the new COSRX Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion with Birch Sap [$20 for 3.38oz, available exclusively at Wishtrend] a little later, but pushed the date forward because Wishtrend is offering a really sweet 20% off coupon that is only valid until March 10th. I originally scheduled this post to go live next week as part of my unofficial K-beauty Saturdays series [I’ve got another kbeauty product to share with you tomorrow], so now I’ve gotta scribble something else instead 😉 Any special requests? Tweet, email, or snap me – add by username: glamorable or scan my tag on the sidebar – and your request might be featured on the blog! Alright, let’s move on to the actual review now…
ABOUT THE CREAM:
Moisturizing creams can be heavy, but COSRX Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion with Birch Sap was developed with oily and combination skin in mind. Infused with 70% birch sap to boost the hydration without clogging the pores, this milky white lotion goes on like silk and absorbs without leaving a sticky layer.
“This omnipotent, all-in-one OIL-FREE Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion with Birch Sap is designed to hydrate the skin for a smooth, silky finish.”
Product features:
- Betula Platyphylla Japonica Juice 70% – enriched with micro and macro-nutrients, birch sap replaces water in this moisturizing lotion.
- Hyaluronic Acid – the best moisturizing ingredient on the market.
- Tea Tree Oil – a great natural anti-bacterial agent that helps combat acne.
Ingredients: Betula Platyphylla Japonica Juice, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Dimethicone, Betaine, Cetearyl Alcohol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/, Sodium Acryloyldimethyl, Taurate Copolymer, Sodium Lactate, Sodium Lactate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Allantoin, Panthenol, Xanthan Gum, Ethyl Hexanediol, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil
PRESENTATION:
COSRX Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion with Birch Sap comes in a tall plastic pump bottle, which I’m super happy about! This preserves the efficacy of the natural extracts [birch sap in this case], protecting them from oxidation, and considerably prolongs the product’s shelf life. The bottle is clear so you can easily see how much lotion is left inside, and the little tube from the pump reaches all the way to the bottom. Odd thing to notice, I know, but once you’ve used up a lot of pump serums, you know the struggle of getting those last few drops at the bottom that just won’t come out.
HOW TO USE:
Dispense an appropriate amount of lotion on your fingertips and gently massage into cleansed and toned skin. If you follow a Korean beauty routine, COSRX Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion follows after ampoules, essences, and serums. I usually needed between 2 and 3 pumps to cover my face and neck, sometimes more, if my skin felt particularly dry.
MY THOUGHTS:
I generally like COSRX skincare and currently use this toner as part of my weekly beauty routine, but COSRX Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion with Birch Sap just might be my new favorite product from the line. It feels rich and slightly tacky to touch at first, so I thought it would be too heavy for my skin, but nope! It somehow sinks right in, so if you heard the phrase “my skin drank it up” but never witnessed it on your own, this is it. While there is no current research that proves the benefits of birch sap in skincare, there is a lot of research for all the micro- and macro-nutrients present in the sap.
I grew up in Russia so birch sap is not an exotic ingredient for me. Early spring [March and April] when birch sap is “in season” my parents would go to a local market to buy giant 3-liter glass jars full of birch juice, as we called it, for my sister and I. We liked its subtle slightly sweet flavor, it’s super refreshing! Think coconut water, just from birch trees. So my logic here tells me that if birch sap is good enough to drink, it’s good enough to slather on my skin, too 😉
Bottom line, I think this moisturizer will work well as a daily hydrator for someone with oily and combination skin, especially for those in hot and humid environments. Its ability to sink in without sticky residue makes it the perfect base for makeup and sunscreen.

So interesting! Birch beer which is actually a soda made from birch sap used to be a thing back in my parents day, but I don’t see it very often any more. It was like root beer light. I hadn’t heard of birch sap as a skincare ingredient. Sounds like a lovely lotion. Right now I am at the very end of a cleanser with a pump and though the tube goes down almost to the very bottom, I’ve had to resort to turning it upside down and sticking my finger in to get out the last bits of a cleanser that I love a lot.
Oh really? I never heard of birch beer, but it sounds like fun! And I hear you, I hate it when pumps don’t reach all the way down or don’t grab all of the product at the bottom.
This lotion looks lovely.
It’s very nice for someone with oily or combination skin.
It sounds really interesting if your skin soaks it up.
That’s why I like it! My skin can get too oily, especially in the t-zone, and lightweight gel-creams are great for that.
Looks like it has a velvety texture.
It makes the skin feel very smooth, that’s for sure.
I had to go check out Wishtrend because I hadn’t seen it before! I have so much skincare right now, but I really want to try this at some point. It sounds perfect for my aging, oily skin. And I want to try Birch Water, too! What a nice memory.
Wishtrend has been around for a while, and they initially got me hooked on k-beauty about 4 years ago.
I love that it resembles a thicker serum… it looks like it glides on effortlessly. It certainly sounds amazing!
The texture is unlike anything else in my routine, it’s very interesting!
