I am a FragranceNet.com Brand Ambassador, but the product selection and all opinions are genuinely my own. #FragranceNet
Everybody is talking about Gwen right now, and rightfully so! Platinum-selling musician, super-talented stylist, muse, designer, star mom, and #GirlBoss, she’s been an inspiration to many girls when I was growing up. Just recently she launched perhaps one of the most successful collaborations with cult cosmetic brand Urban Decay, and her products are flying off the shelves. Today I wanted to talk about one of her first beauty projects that earned a cult following of its own.
Harajuku Lovers fragrances, inspired by Gwen’s favorite part of the Japanese culture – manga and anime – come in bottles that look like kawaii [“cute”] figurines. There are four main characters – the blonde “G” [modeled after Gwen herself], and her four backup dancers Love, Angel, Music and Baby. In case you didn’t know, those names are also the initials behind Gwen’s fashion brand L.A.M.B.
FragranceNet.com sent me a few Harajuku Lovers fragrances to try, and I couldn’t wait to tell you all about them!
Harajuku Lovers Wicked Style Love pays homage to one of the most famous street style locations in Japan. Located directly across from the Harajuku Station exit, Takeshita-dori is a popular destination among teenagers and tourists for its eclectic small shops and colorful characters. Figurines from the Wicked Style collection are dressed up as sweet lolitas, a fashion subculture that is based on Victorian and Edwardian clothing.
Wicked Style Love opens up with a burst of sweet fruit notes, later revealing a delicate floral heart and warm musky & woody drydown. This is a very sweet, innocent, and girly fragrance that would be appropriate for a teenager or a young adult [and anybody who feels like a teenager at heart]. I can totally see how it got inspired by the sweet lolita culture! One whiff makes me want to go put on frilly knee high socks, put the hair up in curly pigtails with pink bows, and rock a lacey parasol.
- Top notes – Pear, Nectarine, Mangosteen
- Heart – Violet, Lotus, Orange Blossom, Osmanthus
- Base – Praline, Musk, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Woods
Harajuku Lovers Baby is part of the original surprise collection that Gwen created in collaboration with Coty. The bouquet reminds me of baby powder, band-aids, and that sweet and creamy scent of Nivea moisturizer in a blue tin. I know that it sounds pretty wild, but when these notes blend with my body chemistry, they create a very warm and clean veil of warmth that is super soothing and calming. I think this is a wonderful scent to wear with casual outfits, or when you simply want to feel extra comfy.
- Top notes – Bergamot, Rose, Freesia
- Heart – Tiare Flower, Jasmine, Orange Blossom
- Base – Heliotrope, Violet, Vanilla, Musk
Harajuku Lovers Sunshine Cuties Music was part of the Summer 2009 collection. All five dolls in the collection wear fun bright bikinis, perfectly manicured toes, and fun hair accessories that could give anyone hair envy. I don’t know about you, but I really like Music’s swimsuit. I’ve been looking for a similar two-piece last summer to no avail, but maybe I’ll be luckier this year.
Sunshine Cuties Music is a fruity-floral burst with a tropical twist. To me it mostly smells like slightly soapy bitter roses with honeysuckle, and it’s unmistakably a Summer scent. Hawaii kawaii, for sure!
- Top notes – Pear, Granny Smith Apple, Freesia
- Heart – Orchid, Honeysuckle, Jasmine
- Base – Woods, Musk, Cashmere Wood
Harajuku Lovers Love is another classic fragrance from the line and part of the original release back in 2008. My bottle came in a set with this cute solid perfume that mimics the design of the bottle. It has a magnetized clasp, which ensures that I won’t smudge it all over my purse or cosmetic bag, so I think this format is very convenient.
Like other fragrances mentioned in this post, Harajuku Lovers Love is also a fruity-floral. It has fairly prominent citrusy top notes, but they fade quickly, revealing the heart that is flowery through and through.
- Top notes – Bamboo, Peach, Pomelo, Bergamot
- Heart – Jasmine, Peony, Rose, Daffodil
- Base – Ylang-Ylang, Vanilla

I have one of the solid perfumes, and I loved it. Now where did I put it??
I only have one, and I carry it with me everywhere 🙂 So easy to use on the go!
Wicked Style Love is my type of scent.
It’s a great ultra-feminine fragrance!
Love and Baby sound like my kind of scents.
I think Baby will be perfect for you! It’s the kind of fragrance you pair with hot pink lipstick and nails, and I know you love those colors 🙂
I was thinking when I saw this post, man I use to wear these back in the day hehe I read your post and realized they have been around for awhile. I still love them, the packaging is so cute!
They’be been out for quite a while indeed. Can’t believe how fast the time flies!
How adorable are these bottles!!!
The packaging is to die for 🙂
OMG this is what I wanted UD to do. Have Harajuku EVERYWHERE. These bottles are aaaadorable! 😍
I agree, I was hoping UD would go the anime route because it totally goes with their wild aesthetic!
I love the bottles so much. I didn’t appreciate them when they first came out but my tastes have changed since then.
Isn’t it awesome that our tastes change so much throughout the years? I remember thinking certain perfumes as “grandma-ish” (Dior Poison, Kenzo Jungle), and now I love those very same scents.
Sunshine sounds like something I would like, I’ve never tried these fragrances, the packaging is so cute!
Harajuku Lovers are all very girly, and if you like young ultra-feminine scents you will enjoy all of these.
Love sounds like a perfume meant for me!
It’s a very girly scent 🙂
I love the packaging of these. I have Gwen’s eyeshadow palette
I bought the palette as soon as it came out, and now thinking about picking up the blushes too. Decisions!
Angel was actually my favorite of them all. I have two bottles of that.
How nice! I think I liked Baby and G the most, but this Baby is the only one I have in my collection right now.
How utterly adorable are those figurines! I want these for the packaging alone!
I’m with you, the packaging always gets me 🙂
These fragrances are too cute! I will have to put these on my wish list!
They are really adorable, and you can buy them really cheap 🙂
I love the packaging on these and the figurines. I’m a huge fan of Gwen and the Harajuku Lovers have always been a favorite… this is fab.
A fellow fan! Gwen is seriously awesome, and she seems like a nice person too.
These bottles are so adorable! I have been so into perfume lately.
I have perfume phases too, and I’m in one right now 🙂 What scents are you loving lately?
