Empties: December 2013

Purchased by Me *PR Sample*

Here is the December batch of products I hit the pan on. It’s not much, but every bottle I empty out is like a small achievement, considering how much stuff I have around here.

*HYD for Men Shave Cream* – Great shaving cream targeted for men, but any woman could use it just as well. It’s like a non-foaming shaving butter, it moisturizes the skin and washes off completely with water. love it!

Dr. Dennis Gross Purifying Bath Crystals – These smelled really nice and relaxing, I really felt like I’m in a SPA. My problem with it is that it needs a scoop, yet doesn’t come with one.

Dr. Brandt Dark Circles Away Collagen Eye Serum – The only positive thing about this serum is the slight color correcting effect, so it worked well with my concealer. I doubt I’d buy a full-sized bottle, because I didn’t see any actual improvement to my dark circles.

Avene Hydrance Optimale – Absolutely fabulous moisturizer! It’s very gentle, unscented, not super oily, and absorbs really well; it’s now on my wishlist.

Aveeno Ultra Calming Makeup Removing Wipes – Despite the “ultra-calming” label, these wipes managed to irritate my skin. It’s normally not very sensitive, but for some reason it’s hard for me to find a brand of facial wipes that don’t sting.

Korres Jasmine Little Shower Gel – The full-sized version of this shower gel is also on my wish list, because not only does it heavenly, it also makes my skin clean without stripping off the moisture barrier.

Philosophy Hope in a Jar – Hate this moisturizer with passion. It gave me hives that I had to live with for 2 weeks, and it smells like old socks. I know a lot of people who swear by it, but my skin really doesn’t get along with the formula.

Fresh Umbrian Clay Mattifying Serum – Got this sample in a Glossybox earlier this year, and although it made my skin feel very calm and comfortable, I don’t think it did much in the mattefying department.

Lifetherapy Hand & Body Wash in Vacation – Love Lifetherapy body washes, and always stock up on them if I find a good sale. Every fragrance reminds me of designer perfumes, and my skin is always lightly scented when I come out of the shower.

*Hydroxatone Instant Lift Pads* – These pads actually work surprisingly well for a temporary fix. Like those temporary lifting serums that will tighten the skin for a few hours, these pads will remove fine lines under the eyes and around the mouth for a limited time. I love them, my mom loves them, and we will be buying more.

Alright, that’s it for me. How well did you do this month? Any particularly big bottles that you finished?

They’re a bit pricey, so I try to catch a sale when I can. Korres makes some amazing products, and their shower gels are only the top of the iceberg 🙂

I’m glad I’m not the only one, the Aveeno Ultra Calming Makeup Removing Wipes completely made my skin go crazy!

Yeah, my skin and eyes always sting so bad when I use these, and I don’t normally have any other sensitivities.

“smells like old socks”! lol! I can’t stand beauty products that smell bad. I’m curious about trying more Hydroxatone products now – I reviewed their face cream, and have almost finished my jar. Good stuff!

Haha, I don’t know how else I could describe the smell of that moisturizer 🙂 By the way, those Hydroxatone pads are wonderful, you should definitely try them.

I love using Dr. Brandt Dark Circles Away Collagen Eye Serum to blend out concealers.

Glad it worked well for you, it just flakes off of my skin 🙁

I love seeing empties post. It’s hard to use up all products, what with the volume of reviews we do so I say great job!

Thanks, Kath! Only a fellow blogger would understand that even one empty bottle a month is already a huge achievement 🙂

I love empties posts and videos. I have the hardest time remembering to keep my containers… I throw them away before I can post. lol

You could have a special basket or a box where you store your empty bottles, so it’s out of sight and doesn’t clutter space 🙂 That’s what I do anyway.

Impressive list. I don’t come close. I did finish an Aveeno cleansing cloth and also an Almay one at least.

Thanks Marcia! Even two empty bottles/packages is already an achievement for bloggers. Great job!

Ugh yeah, this was the first time something broke me out that bad.

  11. January 1, 2014 / 3:06 pm

The only thing I ever empty beauty-wise is my shampoo! I have too much product for anything to empty. Gah

    • January 1, 2014 / 6:08 pm

Hey, even a bottle of shampoo is a beauty product! Congratulations on your empty 🙂

  12. January 1, 2014 / 4:49 pm

I never thought of using men’s shaving cream! I usually use Skintimate but that’s something to check out. Thanks!

    • January 1, 2014 / 6:09 pm

Happy to help! I love men’s shaving products because they seem to work better. Or maybe that’s just in my head 🙂 Either way, I really think it made a difference.

I don’t know about Aveeno wipes, but I swear by the Ole Henriksen Truth to Go wipes. Pricy, but best thing ever. You may want to try them out, but they are a splurge!

    • January 3, 2014 / 11:18 am

I think I just saw them at sephora.com for $8 or somethig, I’ll definitely give them a shot 🙂
