Did you know that October is a Non-GMO month? I had no idea until I read this month’s product insert in my Bestowed Box. I think there is a lot of controversy about GMO in products, and I am on the cautious side of the barricade. I think we just don’t have enough information about the long-time effects of these modified plants, and hopefully we’ll know the answers soon enough.

Crunchmaster Multi-Seed Crackers – These non-GMO verified gluten-free crackers are made with 100% whole grain, and contain no trans fat. These are seriously some of the crunchiest crackers ever. I crunched so loud, I was almost embarrassed to be in the room with myself, haha!

There are like a million things you could pair these with, but hummus, cheese dip, guacamole, and ranch are probably my faves. The crackers have a very strong flavor and scent of sesame seeds, and I know some people don’t like that, but I just happen to love it.

FiberLove Bar – Made with all-natural blend of soluble and insoluble fiber, these soft-baked bite-sized snack bars are perfectly portioned to satisfy sudden munchies in just one bite. They are certified kosher, vegan, and non-GMO verified.

I got to sample two varieties: Peanut Chocolate Chip and Cinnamon Raisin. Since I’m not a fan of peanuts in general, I passed this bar onto my hubs, and ate the cinnamon one instead. I expected it to taste like a meal bar, but it actually reminded me of a soft cookie. Nutritionist Heather Bauer says these bars make great breakfast for travelers when paired with a hard-boiled egg and an organic Greek yogurt.

Hooray Puree Spinach – In a nutshell, this is a single-ingredient puree, made with organic spinach. It was pureed and packaged in clear pouches without any added preservatives or citric acid, so basically it’s a spinach paste in its purest form.

The box comes with two pouches inside, and I used half of one pouch to add some spinach to my mashed potatoes. It tasted great, as if I added freshly blended spinach to it. The company provides lots of ideas how to use their veggie pouches, you can check out the recipes here.

Little Miracles Energy Drink – Free from artificial colors, flavors, and sweeteners and non-GMO certified, this natural energy drink is a mix of organic tea, superfruit juice, and panax ginseng. It can be used in the morning instead of coffee, or in the afternoon as a midday pick-me-up.

Unlike most energy drinks, this one is actually quite yummy: the flavor reminds me of raspberries and blueberries. As sweet as it is, there are only 90 calories per bottle, I’m guessing it’s due to the fact that it’s sweetened with agave syrup instead of sugar. I found myself being more awake and alert for a couple hours after drinking, and unlike coffee, there was no caffeine crash.

Numi Tea Indulgent Chocolate Tea Sampler – Speaking of caffeine, we also received two samples of Numi Chocolate Mint tea, which is oh so perfect this time of the year; it’s like comfort food in tea form. Organic Numi teas are made without artificial flavorings, verified non-GMO and Fair Trade certified.

I brewed both of these samples the same day I got my box, and they were delicious. As a big time tea lover, I enjoy sampling different blends, and Numi teas are some of my favorites. I couldn’t taste much chocolate, but that didn’t take away from the richness of that bold flavor.

Peeled Snacks Cinnamon Apple Clusters – These ball-shaped clusters of dried apple are great for keeping in a purse. They make a perfect healthy midday snack – each bag of these contains four servings of fruit!

Each apple cluster is the size of a gumball, and I kind of wish they were smaller, because I feel like they would be much easier to chew that way. Other than that, I really enjoyed them, even though I probably won’t be buying any.

Glee Gum – I actually tried this gum before and din’t care for it, because it hardened really quickly and started tasting like cardboard after about five minutes of chewing. I normally don’t chew gum anyway, so it’s not like I’m looking for a healthier alternative, but it’s good to know that it’s aspartame-free, made with organic fruits and veggies, and doesn’t contain any artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.

THE VERDICT
On a scale from 1 to 10 I think this box is a solid 7. It’s not my all-time favorite, but I was happy to discover some of the snacks inside that I never heard of. And I’m glad than Bestowed helps spread non-GMO awareness, because often people choose to ignore products that go into their bodies, myself included.
