All editions of Memebox Free From Oil & Trouble boxes have been on the pricey side [as far as Memeboxes go anyway], but after seeing the contents of all three, I finally made up my mind to dish out more than I normally pay for a chance to sample great new products targeted specifically for my skin concerns. I have combination skin, so oil-control has always been my #1 problem, but at the same time I also want to receive other benefits, like anti-aging and brightening. Sounds like Korean skincare companies might have exactly what I’m looking for.

HOW IT WORKS: Memebox is not a typical subscription service. They periodically curate boxes filled with assorted beauty products popular among Koreans, and those Limited Edition bundles are sold on first come first serve basis. Prices vary depending on the type of the box. At this time Memebox ships to USA, China and Korea. All themed boxes tend to sell out fast, so by the time you read this review this particular box probably won’t be available for sale anymore. Click here to see available boxes.

Pro You Aroma AC Cream – My Memebox product card wasn’t as descriptive as I wanted so I had to hunt for more information on foreign sites. From what I could gather, it sounds like it contains white and green tea tree extracts, cypress oil, and grapefruit juice for fighting cystic acne and breakouts. The company also uses triclosan [FDA is urging people to limit their exposure to this ingredient], Salicylic Acid and Sulfur that specifically target acne and help control sebum production; and finally, juniper berry extract and lavender oil to fight inflammation and help the skin heal better.

This moisturizer looks shiny and pearly like a shaving cream, and sort of smells similar to one, too, I’m guessing it’s all thanks to those evergreen oils and extracts. I expected it to make my skin dry and matte, but it’s actually nice and nourishing. I’m a little concerned about triclosan in the formula, mainly because everyone is talking about it now like it’s a big deal. I personally never had any bad reactions to it, but like they say, it’s better be safe than sorry. I think I’ll use it sparingly on those days when I have hormonal breakouts, but it certainly won’t replace my regular moisturizer. As usual, Memebox totally overstated the retail value, so I listed a more realistic price I found online at the bottom of the post.

The Skin House Dr. Clear Magic Toner – We rarely receive toners from Memebox, mainly because Korean toners are a different type of product than what we’re used to. However, this particular toner is actually the familiar kind – an oil-controlling tea tree toner.

I’m excited to use it for the daytime as part of my morning routine, because it reminds me of my favorite Tea Tree Water from LUSH. Memebox recommends spraying it directly on your face before applying any serums or moisturizer, but I prefer using cotton rounds. Since it might be a dealbreaker for some, I thought I should mention that in addition to essential oils and extracts, this toner also contains alcohol.

insobeau Acnic Blemish Spot Solution – Neat! I expected to get something simple and predictable, like a bottle of pure tea tree oil or something, but we actually received this fancy-looking dual-phase spot treatment. In a nutshell, the clear part is a strong alcohol-based solution that includes ingredients like Salicylic Acid, niacinamide, and sulfur; and the opaque pink bottom part is calamine clay mixed with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide that protect the problem spots from sun-caused hyperpigmentation. This concoction also includes oils and extracts from at least a dozen different plants and herbs to make it a real blemish-fighting powerhouse.

I used it three times so far and noticed an immediate overnight improvement to my problem areas. Love this stuff! I know alcohol is not the healthiest of ingredients, but for products like spot treatments it’s necessary sometimes. By the way, contrary to what you think your common sense tells you, this solution has to be used while the layers are separated instead of mixed together! Carefully dip a clean cotton swab into the bottle deep enough to pick up some clay from the bottom layer, and then apply that on the problem spot.

Lindsay Linzy Egg Pack – Alright, fess up ladies, who else is totally charmed by this adorable packaging, because I can’t be the only one, right? According to the info card, white egg soap contains egg whites [who would’ve thought!], witch hazel complex and AHA that help unclog pores, while the red egg contains red clay to mattify and tighten the skin. White soap should be used first, followed by the red one, because they complement each other.

I really want to try these, like, really, but I have a gazillion cleansers open right now, including several skincare soaps, so it will be a while before I get to them. It’s good to know that I have these cute backups waiting to be used, though.

Benenet Herb & Bee A.C Control Serum – It’s hard to find a good Korean serum for oily/combination skin, so this one will become a welcome addition to my morning routine. Right now I use lightweight formulas aimed for normal skin, and they work alright, but I would much rather try a good non-clogging serum addressing my shiny T-zone area instead.

Memebox card says this serum contains bee venom, which is 75% protein and is supposedly very effective at repairing and hydrating the skin. It also contains grapefruit, eucalyptus, clove flower and other botanical extracts to help re-balance the pores and normalize oil production. I tried this serum a few times and it felt nice and comfortable, but I couldn’t tell if it really made a difference. My skin seemed to produce just as much oil as it did before, so the effect from this serum is probably cumulative and slow [if it even does anything at all]. As always, Memebox inflated the retail value on this one, so the price below reflects the actual RV.

ideeB Goodbye Oil Pact – I don’t know what lavender Memebox is talking about, I see this translucent powder as white, and that’s how it applies on my skin. It’s surprisingly good at absorbing the oil, and works just as well as blotting papers.

It already earned a spot in my cosmetic bag, because it’s perfect for touchups on the go. And this powder is seriously invisible on the skin, which is ideal, because I hate it when cheap blotting papers mess up my makeup sometimes. This product is sold in Memeshop.

THE VERDICT
I thought Memebox Free From Oil & Trouble #4 would be good, this one exceeded my expectations! The contents were very well-curated, and covered all the bases – makeup, cleansing, and several steps of skincare routine. My favorite product so far is insobeau Acnic Blemish Spot Solution, because it delivered immediate results, and I just love a good spot treatment. As always, Memebox inflated the values for some items, but really, anybody who wants to know how good of a deal they’re getting can easily look up the prices online [which is what I do all the time]. At this time Free From Oil & Trouble #4 is only available as part of a bundle with CutiePieMarzia box.
