I almost never shop for snacks, instead I rely on subscription boxes like Bestowed and Graze to deliver sweet and savory treats. In September Heather Bauer hand-picked snacks and drinks that can help us stay on track and eat healthy without sacrificing taste.

Qure Water – First thought: “Hey, look, it’s bottled water!” I’ll be honest and admit that I don’t know much about the whole pH business, and why drinking one kind of water is better than the other, but according to Bestowed, this pristine purified water is infused with the earth’s alkaline minerals, so it offers smooth silky taste and perfectly complements fruits and veggies in your diet.

Not sure about the fruit/veggie complementing part, but I do think it tasted smoother than my regular filtered water. It’s like it was thicker or something? Or it may have been my imagination. Either way, I really think it was delicious and didn’t have any distinguishable aftertaste.

Natural Calm Multipack – My product card says this is a powdered magnesium supplement that is also known as “Anti-Stress Drink”. To relax and de-stress I usually sip on herbal teas, like chamomile or mint, so I’m a bit wary of taking a supplement, but I’ll keep these around and maybe try them some day.

The box comes with five single serving packs: Original Unflavored, Organic Raspberry Lemon, Organic Sweet Lemon, Organic Orange, and Organic Cherry. Heather Bauer recommends taking a warm glass before bed for a more restful and relaxing sleep, so it might be a good solution for insomniacs.

Super Eats Kale & Chia Chips – Kale chips are some of my favorite healthy snacks, but like most people I prefer them strongly seasoned to mask that bitter aftertaste. As if kale wasn’t healthy enough, the company also added chia seeds to elevate it to an almost ambrosia level!

These chips are large and thick, the size and shape of Doritos. Those are a bit too big for me, so I broke them in half and ate them like that. The flavor was really crisp and sharp, and even though the chips retained some of that kale bitterness, it was balanced well by chili lime seasoning. I probably wouldn’t buy them again, but it was nice to try something new.

Justin’s Nut Butter Squeeze Pack – I kid you not, I almost went out of breath laughing at this name. I mean come on, who’s in charge for naming these things? My husband didn’t even believe me, and asked if that’s really what it’s called.

Jokes aside, this almond butter is absolutely delicious [those must have been some yummy nuts, you guys!]. It’s made with all-natural organic almonds, and packed with protein and healthy fats [LOL! Alright, alright, I’m done now!] to satisfy hunger between meals.

Balance Bare Sea Salt Caramel Bar – This bar went straight into my purse, because I always have to have one for snacking. I know some people choose to wait til they can have a proper meal, but I really start feeling sick when my blood sugar drops too low, so these little treats are pretty much a necessity.

I didn’t eat this bar yet, but my Bestowed product card says it’s gluten-free, soy-free, and packed with 5 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber to help aid digestion and make me feel full longer. I may even replace a breakfast with it on a busy morning.

Bitsy’s Brainfood Smart Cookies Chocolate Orange Beet – I fully expected these beet alphabet cookies to be gross, but they turned out really yummy. They have rich orange peel flavor with a moderate amount of sweetness that overpowers the beets, and I bet even kids who hate veggies in any form would like these.

According to my product card, these whole grain non-GMO cookies are a great source of essential vitamins and Omega-3 fatty acids, making them a healthy and delicious midday snack, or a great addition to any school lunch box.

[Bonus] Hello Fresh $40 Gift Card – Unfortunately I can’t use this card because it’s for new subscribers only, and I already took advantage of a similar promotion before, but when I did, I thought it was a fun experience. Basically, Hello Fresh service delivers ingredients for three quick meals, either for 2 or 4 people, and the recipes are quick and easy. Each meal takes no longer than 30 minutes to prepare.

THE VERDICT
A little torn about this one, but mostly it’s due to the fact that I wasn’t able to use the Hello Fresh gift card, and I felt like opening a second account for the sake of using it would be cheating. I enjoyed all other samples in the box, especially Bitsy’s beet cookies and surprisingly even Qure water. I think I might need to get more of that, because it really tasted smoother than the water I normally drink.
