I totally forgot to post swatches of my Rockstar Nails polish duo from February Beauty Box 5. Remember that one? It seems like the kit is not available for sale anymore, but I already took pictures and everything, so might as well share them, right?

This duo is actually a part of an 8-piece set, and I don’t think any of these are sold separately. In February Beauty Box 5 subscribers received a solid creme color and an accompanying bottle of caviar sprinkles; as you can see, I got the Teal variety. The color is absolutely stunning, but that’s the only good thing I can say about the polish.

My disappointment began as soon as I unscrewed the cap – the polish smelled like bad quality paint, no kidding. I always apply polishes over base coat to prevent staining, but no matter which one I used [3-free, or 5-free], it just started looking like sour milk, does that make sense? That weird clumpy texture that won’t go away even after several brush strokes, and even after top coat. Too see it in full “glory” check out my pinky nail in swatches above, it showcases that gritty finish quite well.

The pigmentation is good, and if you can get past the smell and the texture, it’s a solid one-coater. However, if you want to play around with those glass beads, you will definitely need a second coat. The polish takes a while to dry, too, so I had to be extra careful to avoid accidental smudges.

Longevity-wise, this polish started chipping on the third day, and I’m not particularly hard on my nails. The beads chipped off after 4-5 hours, but that’s to be expected. However, there’s one con that beats everything above – staining. After wearing this polish for 4 days, even with base coat it stained my nails blue, and two weeks after they’re still in that condition =/

THE VERDICT
Personally, I really love this gorgeous teal color, and the beads were very fun to play with, but the formula of the polish was goopy and clumpy. Other noteworthy negative things I have to mention is the strong chemical smell, staining, chipping, and long drying time. From the positives, I’d like to applaud the good pigmentation, making this formula a one-coater.
